New Ear Festival: Miya Masaoka's Vagina Dialogues

  • Fridman Gallery 287 Spring Street New York, NY, 10013 United States (map)

A Tribute to my dear friend, collaborator and mentor, Pauline Oliveros. I know she is listening.
In Vagina Dialogues -a performance sound composition -- Miya Masaoka enacts the registers of aurality, hearing and engagement that involve the giving and receiving of sound.
In these vagina listening sessions, the body’s vaginal orifice a receptor and giver of sound, whereby sound is transmitted and felt through the entire body. In this scenario, vaginas are empowered as the producers of sound, no longer mute and silent. 16 vagina identified queer friendly participants will be vibrating together on resonating chairs with transducers. Come and try a chair yourself or sit in the audience!

Join us for this performance followed by an informal discussion January 12 at 8:00 (Please stay for the later sets with Byron Westbrook and Ursula Scherrer)
